In 1959 triumph had launched its herald saloon and much of its success was credited to the styling, Which was the work of the Italian giovannin michelotti With the launch at the 1961 london motor show. The mechanicals were essentially the same as those of its predeccessors With a all synchromesh gearbox was employed.
The engine was a 2138cc

They sold 40,000 before the tr4a arrived.
The tr4a arrived for the 1965 season.
Although outwardly similar, mechanically there was a radical change with the suspension and front steering arms. The engine was boosted by changing the profile of the camshaft to increase top speed to 110mph. but at the expense of the petrol consumption. With a new impressive michelotti body which survived until the 1976 through to the tr6.
